Our 2024 TSRC conference was held on April 8 & 9. We had over 200 people to attend including participants, students from 4 schools and vendors. The four schools represented was Baptist Health Sciences University -Memphis, Concorde Career College – Memphis, Jackson State Community College, and Columbia State Community College. Great fun for all. The Whispering Woods Hotel & Conference Center was a wonderful venue for our Conf. The food was great, and the service was outstanding! We had 20 lectures offering 12 CEUs to every participant over the two days. Mr. Patrick Dunne, 1991 AARC President, was the keynote speaker and provided two lectures for us, one on safety and the other on reimagining Resp. Care going forward. We also had Mrs. Melanie Thomas, NBRC Sr. Vice President, to educate the group on changes coming in 2027 for the test. The Clinical Simulation exam and written exam will be combined into one exam in 2027 and will be called the Respiratory Therapy Examination. This exam will be 160 scored multiple choice questions and will be given in a 4-hour block with two hours at a time and 10-minute break in between. This exam will have two cut scores with one for CRT and higher cut score for RRT. Our keynote speaker on Tuesday was Tim Hayes, an attorney with Harris – Shelton Law Firm, and he educated the group on depositions. Very useful information for all. We had Monaghan Medical, Mid-South Transplant Foundation, NBRC, Vero Bio Tech, Vyaire & Zopec Medical provide speakers for our conference. We appreciate all the vendor support.

On Monday, April 8, during our lunch, participants with solar glasses went outside to observe the beginnings of the solar eclipse. Olive Branch had about 90% totality around 1:57pm and the two lecturers allowed the group to take a quick break to see this amazing event.

The annual business meeting was held on Monday morning and the 2024 officers were sworn in to carry out the responsibilities for TSRC in 2024 – 2025 year. We also had a great Sputum Bowl Competition. Michelle Hadley, TSRC Education Chair, did a great job organizing the competition. Dr. William Phillips, TSRC Delegate, did a great job moderating the event. The three competing teams were Columbia State, Concorde, and Jackson State. Jackson State won the competition. Everyone had great fun!
